XU Qiushi

Dr. Qiushi XU, Assistant Professor at School of Design, Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), China, is a scholar of Sound Studies and STS (Science and Technology Studies). From 2020 to 2022, Dr.XU was a Junior Fellow in the Society of Fellows in the Liberal Arts at SUSTech. In 2020, she received her Ph.D. in Philosophy of Science and Technology from Tsinghua University, China and was in a joint Ph.D. program in the Department of Science and Technology Studies at Cornell University, U.S.A. She obtained a MA in Cultural and Creative Industries at King's College London, UK, and got a BA in Recording Arts (Sound Director) and a BA in Journalism in Communication University of China. Dr.Xu has been working on research about sound technology and sound art, musical instruments, noise and environmental studies, sound and gender, sound, body and medicine, and philosophy and ethics of AI technology in sound (The National Social Science Fund of China, 2024). In addition, Dr. XU is a curator in sound who organized pioneering exhibitions of sound installation in China. She is regarded as one of the main figures in sound studies in China.
