On the morning of July 5, Guan Daowen, founding dean of the School of Innovation and Creative Design at Southern University of Science and Technology, and Li Xu, deputy dean of administration, along with two other colleagues, visited Sanno Smart Building to meet with Liu Zhixiong, chairman and CEO of Sanno Group, Nie Qinyuan, deputy general manager, Zheng Yu, general manager of the Industrial Design Center, and Zhang Daizong, product director of Sanno Audio-Visual Connectivity, for a discussion with other company executives.

On June 29, during the 2023 World Design Day event specially supported by Sanno, Dean Guan Daowen and Chairman Liu Zhixiong engaged in an in-depth discussion on design-driven innovation, which led to this collaboration between the two parties.

The delegation first toured Sanno's headquarters exhibition hall and industrial design center, gaining a deeper understanding of Sanno Group's manufacturing evolution, business model, and smart industry through representative exhibited products.

During the discussion, focusing on Sanno Group's unique business model “OPM - Original Product Planning Provider,” Guan Daowen inquired about the reasons behind its creation, intellectual property rights of designed products under this model, and issues related to design innovation sharing. Liu Zhixiong outlined Sanno's strategic development direction, which is driven by design innovation and technological innovation, guided by scenario-based user needs, focused on large-scale personalized customization, and aims to bridge the gap from 0 to 1 to 100 to 10,000+, transforming innovative capabilities into industrial and commercial strengths to meet the future demand for scenario-based applications tailored to individual needs. Guan Daowen introduced the research characteristics of the Design Academy, including interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary integration, and application-oriented research, as well as the teaching characteristics of integrating education and research, and the significance of industry-academia-research collaboration in building a high-level Shenzhen Innovation and Creative Design Academy and driving industrial upgrading and transformation through design-driven innovation.

Liu Zhixiong praised the school's faculty quality and forward-thinking approach to education. He expressed his hope that the Shenzhen Innovation and Creative Design Academy would forge a unique path, leveraging Shenzhen's diverse, open, and innovative industrial environment, industrial strength, and market platform to bridge design with industry and commerce. Both parties also discussed scientific research and teaching cooperation around Sanno's digital lighthouse factory, which covers the entire product life cycle from creativity to manufacturing, to empower the design academy with Shenzhen's advanced industries and form a synergy between design companies, design platforms, and the cultivation of outstanding innovative talents, thereby promoting the high-quality development of Shenzhen's economy, industries, and people's lives through practical actions.
