The "China-US Youth Maker Competition" (hereinafter referred to as the "Competition") is hosted by the Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, and co-organized by the China Service Center for Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE), Tsinghua University, Beijing Gehua Cultural Development Group Co., Ltd., Intel Corporation, and the China University Science Park Alliance. The 2024 China Division Selection of the Competition will be held in 14 cities across China, including Beijing, Tianjin, Shenyang, Shanghai, Nanjing, Wuhan, Haikou, Chengdu, Xi’an, Xiamen, Suzhou, Wenzhou, Shenzhen, and Hangzhou. The Shenzhen Division consists of a Main Track and a Vocational College Sub-Track. The Main Track is hosted by Southern University of Science and Technology, while the Vocational College Sub-Track is hosted by Shenzhen City Polytechnic.
Since its first edition in 2014, the Competition has consistently adopted the theme of "Co-Creating the Future". It encourages participants to focus on sustainable development fields such as community, education, environmental protection, health, energy, and transportation, and to integrate innovative concepts with cutting-edge technology to create new works with social and industrial value. The Competition aims to promote the development of maker culture and ecosystems in China and the US through a competitive format, contribute to the continuous optimization of the environment for youth maker communities and makerspaces, and foster the growth and success of young makers. This year, greater emphasis will be placed on the application of digital technologies: participants are encouraged to respond to the new trends of digitalization, networking, and intelligentization, develop forward-looking solutions, advance the digital transformation of society, and contribute to global sustainable development.
The Competition fully embodies the characteristics of China-US people-to-people exchanges. It builds a cross-cultural co-creation platform for young people from both countries, encouraging them to focus on the future well-being of humanity, share innovative solutions, and carry out cooperative actions. The official establishment of the China-US Maker Center at SUSTech provides another high-level platform for young people from the two countries to showcase their innovative achievements, promote exchange, cooperation, and mutual understanding.
