Position: Assistant Professor

I am an Assistant Professor at the School of Design at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) since January 2022, leading the Machine Intelligence Design and Learning Lab (mainDL Lab). I am a member of the Design Society and IEEE. My research is focused on designing and learning bio-inspired perception and interaction using artificial intelligence. I graduated from Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) in 2009 with a bachelor’s degree in Applied Mathematics. Then, I graduated from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in 2014 with a Doctoral degree in Mathematics and Physics. I have led 4 projects including the National Natural Science Foundation Youth Project, the Ministry of Education Collaborative Education Project. I have co-authored over 40 high-quality papers in top AI and robotics journals and conferences, including The International Journal of Robotics Research, IEEE Transactions on Robotics, the Conference on Robot Learning (CoRL), and the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA). I’m also the lead instructor of three courses, including AI in Design, Design and Learning with Data, and Designing Robots for Social Good.
