Position: Tenured Associate Professor
Dr. LIU Wei is an Associate Professor at the School of Design at Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech). His research encompasses empathy-driven interaction design, human-computer interaction, user experience, and engineering psychology, with a focus on integrating innovative technologies into human-centered design processes to advance the synergy between design and technology. He has received many honors including a Fulbright Research Scholar and the National Teaching Achievement Award (First Prize). With over 100 peer-reviewed articles published in international journals and conferences, his teaching and research focus on fostering creativity, promoting transdisciplinary collaboration, and addressing innovative design challenges to drive the advancement of design education and practice. Leveraging extensive research and practical experience, he has collaborated with renowned global corporations such as Apple, Boeing, Google, Lenovo, Porsche, and Saint-Gobain, contributing to developments in smart mobility solutions, advanced healthcare technologies, and maker education systems. Before joining SUSTech, he served as Associate Professor at the Faculty of Psychology at Beijing Normal University, where he led the development of the User eXperience Master Program, and Assistant Professor at the College of Design and Innovation at Tongji University. In industry, he worked as a user experience designer at Autodesk and as an interaction designer at Motorola, leading or contributing to the design of iconic products such as AutoCAD and the ROKR series. He earned his Ph.D. at the Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering at Delft University of Technology, M.Sc. in IT Product Design from the University of Southern Denmark, and B.E. in Industrial Design from Beijing University of Technology.
