The seminar was divided into two sessions. Firstly, Prof. DESMET delivered a lecture on "Design for Emotion and Well-being", introducing the connection between design and emotions and how design can contribute to the well-being of individual users and communities. After Prof. DESMET's lecture, Prof. LI invited Prof. DESMET, Dr. XUE, and Dr. LIU for a panel discussion, engaging in an in-depth discussions with faculty and studentsfrom School of Design about research and practice in wellbeing-driven design.

In the lecture, Prof. DESMET shared his personal experiences and reflections on how his academic research has gradually changed from measuring users' emotions to focusing on users' basic emotional needs and well-being experience. He also talked about the research methodology and practical experience of designing for emotion and well-being. In discussing the design research on evoking user happiness, Prof. DESMET described some key concepts of emotions, the challenges, opportunities, and misconceptions faced by designers in the practice of wellbeing-driven design. As the advocator of the concept of Positive Design, Prof. DESMET recommend Design for Pleasure, Design for Personal significance, and Design for Virtue as the three direction to promote people’s subjective wellbeing.

Following the lecture, Prof. LI Xueliang, as the host, organized a panel talk with Prof. DESMET, Dr. XUE, and Dr. LIUi. They engaged in a lively discussion on the theme of "Design for emotion and well-being", and answered questions from the audience. The guests, faculty and students of the School of Design talked about design challenges faced by researchers in wellbeing-driven design in the era of artificial intelligence, how to break down user barriers and create opportunities to meet the fundamental needs of users, and how novice designers can better engage in wellbeing-driven design.
