Party Building | The Party Branch of the School of Design Holds the First Quarter Party Member Meeting of 2025

On March 17, the Party Branch of the School of Design convened its first quarter party member meeting of 2025 in the college's 11th-floor auditorium. The meeting aimed to align with national development trends, study the spirit of the Two Sessions, summarize branch work, deepen political learning within the branch through criticism and self-criticism, and promote the further development of the college's party building work. Gong Yi, Party Secretary of the School of Engineering at Southern University of Science and Technology, attended the meeting and provided important guidance on the college's party-building-led discipline development work.

1. Deeply study the spirit of the National People's Congress and strengthen theoretical training

At the beginning of the meeting, Secretary Xu Qiusheng led all party members in carefully studying the spirit of the National People's Congress and deeply understanding the relevant deployment requirements of the central government. This study focused on important issues such as education, science, and technology, and talent in the government work report, emphasizing the key role of scientific and technological innovation in promoting high-quality development, while guiding party members to deeply consider how to combine their own research with national development strategies.

2. Reviewing the development process of the branch and summarizing the achievements of party building work

Subsequently, Secretary Xu Qiushi delivered a summary report on the branch's work in 2024, comprehensively reviewing the party building work of the past year. The report summarized the branch's specific practices in ideological construction, organizational construction, style construction, and party building, leading scientific research innovation, and demonstrating the positive role of the college's party branch in promoting high-quality development. At the same time, it examined the existing issues within the branch and proposed specific directions for rectification and implementation.

3. Conducting democratic life meetings and democratic evaluations to promote self-improvement among Party members

During the democratic life meeting, participating Party members divided into groups for discussions, engaging in candid exchanges around daily work, organizational life, and scientific research practices, conducting criticism and self-criticism to achieve mutual improvement.

During the democratic evaluation session, all Party members conducted an in-depth evaluation of the branch's development over the past year in accordance with the requirements of the higher-level Party committee, and objectively and fairly assessed the performance of each Party member. This democratic evaluation not only summarized the individual ideological awareness, work performance, and exemplary role of party members but also served as an important component of branch construction. Through this democratic evaluation, all party members further strengthened their sense of party spirit, laid a solid foundation for the branch's long-term development, and fostered a positive atmosphere of “learning through evaluation and improving through evaluation.”

4. Expanding the Party member team and jointly planning Party building innovation

Subsequently, the meeting held a ceremony to welcome new Party members, formally accepting four graduate student Party members: Xu Ronghan, Wu Tianyu, Qiu Wanghongjie, and Huang Bangchao. Their joining not only injected new vitality into the branch but also strengthened the Party member team of the college, demonstrating the responsibility and commitment of young Party members in the new era.

At this meeting, the branch also solicited suggestions for party member activities, aiming to launch more party-building activities tailored to the college's characteristics in the first half of 2025. The branch will incorporate everyone's suggestions to optimize activity plans, ensuring that party building work is more effective, truly achieving party leadership, serving society, and driving the development of the college.

5. Secretary Gong Yi summarized and guided the meeting

During the summary phase of the conference, Secretary Gong Yi fully affirmed the high-level design education of the School of Design and particularly praised the college's innovative “Dean's First Lesson” model. At the same time, he also put forward two important suggestions:

1. Strengthen the promotion of benchmark projects—the college should thoroughly summarize and promote leading star projects, widely publicize them both inside and outside the college, and make the development achievements of the design discipline more visible.

2. Combine disciplinary advantages with innovative party building activities — Encourage the college's party branch to fully leverage the unique characteristics and advantages of the design discipline, actively explore the integration of party building work with professional practice, and create a series of creative and influential party building activities.

This party member conference not only summarized the branch's achievements over the past year but also clarified the future direction of party building work. The college's party branch will take this conference as an opportunity to further deepen the leading role of party building and contribute greater efforts to promoting the college's high-quality development.
