Dean Thomas Kvan gives a lecture at Bao’an Bureau of Science, Technology and Innovation

On the morning of November 12th, 2021, Prof. Thomas KVAN, the dean of the School of Design, gave a lecture for the Bureau of Science, Technology, and Innovation (hereinafter referred to as “the Bureau”), the Service Center for Science, Technology, and Innovation and the Science and Technology Museum at the invitation of the Bureau. Key officials including YU Jianfeng, the director of the Bureau, SHEN Yan, the deputy director of the Bureau, ZHANG Dai, the deputy director of the Bureau, and LIU Yangmin, the research officer of the Bureau, attended the lecture.

The lecture kindled in-depth discussion between the two sides. Mr. Yu said that this lecture enabled him to understand how design can propel regional development from another perspective and suggested that the design principles would radiate cultural charm through the integration of the essence of traditional Chinese culture into Shenzhen’s design principles. Besides, Mr. Yu hoped that communication could be continued in the long run to jointly build the bridge between industries and the school.

Mr. Zhang expressed that the influence of design will be manifested in not only the products but also in the development of industrial parks and industrial forms in Bao’an District, and urban morphology and ecology. Ms. Liu shared that design has been ubiquitous in our day-to-day lives and has been interwoven with science and technology.

 

Prof. Kvan mentioned that communication is conducive to more ideas and it’s great to gain inspiration and insights from today’s communication. He hoped that the exchange of ideas this time could be a booster for more communication and joint exploration of industry-university-research collaboration and social services of universities.
